Are you a parent who would like to receive texts from FRCS regarding events or news about the school? We are currently exploring the option of adding SMS to our communications with parents, and we’d like your feedback on this option. NOTE: This new option would NOT impact the texts sent through Parent Alert, which include school closures or delays and emergency notifications — all parents signed up for those alerts will continue to receive them from Parent Alert regardless of the results of this poll.
Some studies show that there are a growing number of Americans who would prefer text communication over other forms, such as emails. If we choose to pursue this new communication method, we would continue to send email, as it is one of the most cost effective options available to the school. But for those of you who might prefer texts to email, we wanted to explore this option as a supplement to our current communications efforts.
A few notes or considerations:
- Texts from the new system would be limited to no more than 1-2 per week, and might include quick messages with reminders about events, links for registration or signups, exciting school news, etc.
- If we do move forward with this system, texts would only be sent to those who sign up. Enrollment would not automatically include you in any text lists.
- Email will continue to be our primary communication avenue with parents; those who sign up for texts should not expect messages to fully replace email communications, as information is limited and messaging is not as cost effective as email.
If you have thoughts, questions or concerns about this option, feel free to vote and leave comments on this post. Thank you in advance for sharing your input!
