Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence.
He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day,
nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.
A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.
You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked. If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling,
no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent.
For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;
they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent.“Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.
With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”~ Psalm 91
At the FRCS leadership retreat last summer, Mr. Cooper asked each of us to come up with a Wildly Important Goal (WIG) for the coming year. My WIG for this year is improving security. Security has always been at the top of our list of most important pursuits at FRCS.
The words “safety” and “security” are often used interchangeably, but they actually have quite different meanings. Security is a means to achieving that sense of safety; that feeling of being protected. There can only be safety if there is security. Security helps to achieve safety.
Here are some of the security measures that we have instituted to help provide for the safety of students and staff at Front Range Christian School.
- Daily prayer and faith that the Lord is watching over and protecting us (the reason this post leads off with Psalm 91)
- School Resource Officers (SRO) in close proximity and accessible; they are quick to respond to our concerns and take our calls personally
- Radio and intercom communication across campus
- Single point of access to the buildings and door monitors
- New perimeter fence with gates
- Electronic keys and time locks throughout the campus
- Security systems in all school buildings
- 50+ security cameras and video feed campus wide
- Several non-lethal self defense weapons secured throughout the campus
- Quarterly hands-on-training of select staff members in security protocols and non-lethal defense training
- Monthly Safety Committee meetings to address any recent issues and track ongoing concerns and implementation of improvements
- Establishment of a plain clothes campus security team
- Drills for fire, tornado, intruder, active shooter, lock down, lock out, etc.
While this list is not exhaustive, I hope that it impresses upon you that we take security seriously and are constantly striving for excellence in this area. I also hope this list of security measures increases your feeling of safety for you and your children while on campus.
In our ongoing efforts to improve security, I invite you, if you have anything to offer in this pursuit, to contact me so we can discuss ideas. We can always use more prayer partners, door monitors, campus security, and recess parent volunteers, (BTW we are very generous with P3 hours for help with these).
Please continue to pray with me and believe that the “Lord is our refuge and our fortress, the God in whom we trust,” and that He will continue to “command his angels to guard us and keep us in all of our ways.” Then we will have true safety.
I am a grandmother of your student Ava Mitchell in the 5th Grade. In light of the Memphis shooting, I have a few questions and concerns.
1. School Resource Officers in close proximity. Please clarify how close is close and are there any on campus? Are they adequately armed to stop an active shooter?
2. “Non Lethal” Are you referring to tasers? What is the distance from the shooter in order for these to work? It seems that whoever would be using these would almost certainly be accessible and be shot themselves. Same with pepper spray.
3. How would someone on campus be able to stop a shooter who is equipped with an assault weapon?
4. The Memphis shooter shot up the school entrance door and was able to enter the school. What would prevent that from happening at Front Range?
5. How often are student drills?
6. We have not seen the new perimeter gates. How would that stop someone? We have easy access to come on campus.
7. The new plain clothes Security Team on campus. Are they there every day and are they armed?
8. Has everything on the list been implemented?
I am a devout and spiritual Christian, pray daily and at the same time believe that we should do whatever it takes to be prepared to keep our students, teachers, administrators and those employed at the school safe.
Thank you.🙏
