The Samuel J. Murri All-In Scholarship is awarded each year to one FRCS senior entering his/her first year of college. It’s intended for students who are passionate about Jesus and who are not necessarily top academic students.
Background
Samuel J. Murri was a 2009 graduate of FRCS. He had a kind, gentle spirit and a contagious smile. Sam did not want to go into anything halfway. As he began to seek his own path in life, Sam felt that it would be hypocritical to identify himself as a Christian if he was unwilling to completely submit himself to the Lord’s will. After a short, soul-searching journey, Sam found his way back to his Christian faith, in part due to the solid Biblically based education he received at FRCS. When Sam returned to his Christian roots, he was “All In.” Sam went to college, and after graduation, he was employed in the emergency response field. He was working toward his dream of becoming an arson investigator when the Lord called him home. This scholarship is provided in Sam’s memory.
Scholarship Applicant Criteria
The recipient of the Samuel J. Murri “All In” scholarship will exemplify Christian character in all aspects of life. This will be demonstrated through:
- Being fully committed to the Christian faith – to be “all in”
- Exhibiting integrity – to do the right thing, even when you think nobody else is watching
- Respecting others – to be loyal and inclusive in friendships
- Serving the community – to make the world a better place
Applicant must be a graduating senior at FRCS with a minimum unweighted high school GPA of 2.5. This scholarship is for students entering the first year of post-secondary education, and it is not renewable. Scholarships are awarded based on an assessment process that includes a written essay focused on the theme “All In” and the four selection criteria above, a letter of reference from a non-member of the applicant’s family testifying to the student’s character, and for selected finalists, a personal interview.
