This school year begins my 7th year at Front Range Christian School, and I feel that I’ve been around long enough to see the authentic qualities that make FRCS unique. When thinking of the big picture of Christian education, a Christian school is only successful if all those who are a part of it, regardless of their role, are working toward the same mission — following wholeheartedly after the Lord. From my first day on campus until now, I have always said that this place is different because we don’t just say we want to be on mission with God. It’s a daily choice we all make, and it is seen and felt throughout our campus.
In the Elementary, one way we accomplish our goal to be on mission with God is by intentionally training teachers. Our Elementary Mentor/Mentee program leads all new FRCS teachers through two years focused on cultivating a strong community, understanding the mission and values of FRCS, as well as implementing deliberate discipleship-based teaching in their classrooms.
A typical meeting between Mentor and Mentee teachers will include prayer for one another, celebrating successes, sharing struggles, spending deliberate time in the Word together, and purposeful moments learning and growing as Christian educators. These pieces are deliberately placed and create a culture of growth-minded, Truth knowers and doers. With so many voices surrounding and distracting each of us, it is essential to provide space and time designed with these purposes in mind. These times together have impacted teachers but also students and parent partnerships alike.
I am grateful for the opportunity to work in a place that values growing together as Christ-followers and educators each day. I couldn’t imagine teaching anywhere else simply because I know when I walk into my job each day, I will be met with resilient people choosing to follow the Lord. I don’t know about you, but that’s the type of place I want to teach in and watch my children grow up in!
