Adventure and Wilderness Experiences (AWE) is an FRCS adventure-based program that exists to use adventure and wilderness experiences to develop both a student’s character and the school community. AWE’s objective is to better know and cultivate students in a dynamic environment, while developing leadership skills to impact the world for Christ.
Outings
Students grades 7-12 get one AWE outing during each school year. Most activities run from 7:40am-3pm during the school week. Outings have been divided up into seasons. When selecting an outing, be sure to consult your personal calendar to assess how this might affect your involvement in school or personal activities.
Please be aware that some of these outings take place at higher elevations. You should consult with your physician if you have medical needs that are complicated by higher altitudes (such as diabetes or heart or lung disease), and inform the trip leaders if there is any specific medical information we need to be aware of.
Gear
Students are required and responsible for obtaining ALL gear listed for each activity. Please carefully review the gear list when making your activity choice as there might be cost involved for obtaining specific gear if not already owned. Students need to dress appropriately for each outing chosen and be prepared for the forecast for the day of their outing. Please reference the clothing checklist for guidelines and recommendations. FRCS has access to certain gear for students (noted in the gear list).
FRCS provides transportation for all of the activities.
Adventure Levels
Students will choose the level of the AWE outing in which they want to participate.
