Megan graduated from From Range Christian School in May of 2013. The bottom photo shows her with the Senior Powder Puff Team of 2013 (who went undefeated all four years). Here is her story in her own words:
After my freshman year of high school, my family decided to move across the country to Colorado. We toured a few schools and were impressed as each showed us what they had to offer. After narrowing my choices down to a few schools, my parents let me make the decision. Against my pro/cons list, friends’ opinions, and basic logic I decided to take a risk and follow my instinct as I enrolled in Front Range Christian High School. It offered what I had been deprived of, and unknowingly desired most – a Christian community.
When I first began, I was skeptical to see it deliver the Christian experience promoted. My first shocking experience of this came before I even began, as my future classmates made the initiative to get to know me by inviting me to various pool parties and movie nights. As the school year began, I was surprised even farther by the welcoming upperclassmen. They had little to nothing to gain from being kind and friendly to me, yet the seniors I was with in cheerleading, student council, discipleship groups, and a few classes were sure to make me feel accepted and loved being the strongest witness of the “distinctively Christian” community I was told about.
“Distinctively Christian” is part of our school’s motto, and I vividly remember silently mocking it thinking whoever signed off on that idea was a fool just setting up more evidence for us to be labeled hypocrites. This still may hold some truth to it, for we are still an organization made up of sinners, but I soon realized that FRCS has a goal that sets it apart – it’s all about raising followers for Christ. They don’t just teach us what we need to know, they question us about what we believe and patiently walk with us as we search for our own answers. We are still given the answers we need for our ACTs, college applications, and job interviews, but unlike most schools, FRCS dares to ask us the hard questions even they don’t always have the answers to. Through this, they challenge us to believe differently than the world, to live differently than the world.
When asked, “what influence did FRCS have on my life”, I look at where I am today, I see that it has given me the chance to be a leader by entrusting me as a coach for the FRCS Jr High cheerleading team. The school helped me to discover who I was made to be with classes taught by our Head of Spiritual Life such as “Our Life Calling” and “Senior Seminar”. It gave me chances to be a mentor as I led a junior high discipleship group and participated in my own high school group with underclassmen. It has given me the opportunity to learn hands-on in my field of study with an internship. Being a part of the community here has provided me lifelong friendships with people who share my walk with Christ. Lastly, it has blessed me with teachers who have continuously shown me Christ’s love, role models who I can only hope to grow up to be like.In essence, my time at Front Range Christian School hasn’t necessarily “given” me something. Rather, it has transformed me to be a disciple of Christ and equipped me to go out and further the Kingdom of God.
