PSAT
Thursday, October 24, will be a different day at FRCS Jr/Sr High. All students grades 7-11 will take the PSAT and seniors have the time to work on college applications, the FAFSA, or visit local colleges. Read on for specifics for each grade level below. And remember that it is a half day for Jr/Sr High students.
Schedule Overview
- Students grades 7-9 take the practice PSAT (8:40-11:30am)
- Students grades 10-11 take the PSAT/NMSQT (8:40-11:30am)
- Seniors should use this day for college prep: applications, FAFSA completion, or campus visits
Specifics
About the PSAT
The test prepares students grades 7-10 for the standardized testing process and allows us to assess test-taking strengths and weaknesses for the PSAT, ACT, and SAT,
Test results provide guidance for placement in honors and AP level classes.
For Juniors, the test is also an opportunity to qualify for several scholarships, including the National Merit Scholarship.

Digital Test
The test is digital this year, so students should bring their fully-charged device (iPad, laptop, Chromebook) to school on October 24.
Students must also download Bluebook in order to take the test.
WHAT TO BRING ON OCTOBER 24
- Your fully charged device; you must have the Bluebook app installed and exam setup complete BEFORE test day.
- A power cord and/or portable charger; we cannot guarantee that you will have access to an outlet during testing. Your device should be able to hold a charge for 3-4 hours.
- A pencil or pen (scratch paper will be provided, you should not bring your own)
- An approved calculator (optional as there is a graphing calculator built into the app)
- An external mouse (optional)
- A keyboard for your iPad (optional)
Half Day
The PSAT concludes around noon, and there are no afternoon classes on October 24. It is essentially a half day for all Jr/Sr High students.
For Seniors
On Thursday, October 24, students grades 7-11 take the PSAT, and it is a half day for all students 7-12. Seniors are encouraged to use this as a day to work on college applications, campus visits, or completing the FAFSA.
Please take advantage of this time, and plan accordingly.
