Statement of Faith
What we believe to be true concerning:
Scripture
The Bible (the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments) is the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God. It was written by men, and prepared and superintended by the Holy Spirit. The Bible is without error in the original writings. It is the complete revelation of God’s will for salvation. It is the ultimate authority by which every realm of human knowledge and endeavor should be judged. Scripture is to be believed in all that it teaches, obeyed in all that it requires, and trusted in all that it promises. (2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:19-21)
God
There is one God, eternally existent, perfect and unchanging in all His attributes. God exists in a Trinity of three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The persons of the Trinity are distinct, but without division of essence, character, nature, or being. This God is responsible for the creating and sustaining of all life and for the work of redemption. (Genesis 1:1, Matthew 28:19, John 10:30)
Father
God the Father is perfect in holiness, infinite in wisdom, and measureless in power. He concerns Himself justly and mercifully in the affairs of people. He hears and answers prayer. He saves people from sin, from its power over their lives, and from spiritual death. (Malachi 3:6, Hebrews 13:8, James 1:17)
Son
God the Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, is fully God and fully human having precisely the same nature, attributes and perfections as God the Father and God the Holy Spirit. He became flesh through His virgin birth. He lived a sinless life and performed miracles. He sacrificed His life through His vicarious and atoning death on the cross. He was raised from the dead, and He ascended to the right hand of the Father. He is our High Priest and Advocate before God the Father. He will physically return in power and in glory.(John 10:30, Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:20-23, Luke 1:35, Hebrews 4:14-15, John 2:11, 1 Corinthians 15:3-8, Ephesians 1:7-8, Hebrews 2:9-11, John 11:25, Mark 16:19, Acts 1:10-11, Revelation 19:11-16, John 21:14, Acts 2:24, Romans 4:25)
Holy Spirit
God the Holy Spirit, through His present ministry, regenerates unto salvation, indwells and empowers Christians to live a godly life, enables them to understand the Scriptures, and equips them to be effective in furthering Christ’s Kingdom, glorifying both the Father and the Son. (Romans 8:13-17; 1 Corinthians 3:16, 6:19-20; Ephesians 4:30, 5:18; John 3:5-6)
Salvation
Regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential for the salvation of lost and sinful men and women. Men and women are saved solely by God’s grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. (John 3:16-19, Romans 3:21-24, Ephesians 2:8-10, Titus 3:5)
Eternity
There will be a resurrection of both the saved and the lost: the saved unto the resurrection of life everlasting; and the lost unto the resurrection of eternal damnation. (John 3:16-19, 5:28-29; 2 Thessalonians. 1:9-10)
The Church
There is a spiritual unity among all believers who have been justified by God’s grace through faith alone in Christ. These believers, locally and globally, are united by the Holy Spirit in the body of Christ, of which Jesus Christ is the Head. (1 Corinthians 12:12-13, Galatians 3:26-29)
On Marriage, Gender, and Sexuality
- We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female. These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God. Rejection of one’s biological sex is a rejection of the image of God within that person.
- We believe the term marriage has only one meaning and that is marriage sanctioned by God which joins one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union, as delineated in Scripture. We believe that God intends sexual intimacy to occur between a man and a woman who are married to each other, and that God prohibits intimate sexual activity outside of this union.
- We believe that any form of sexual immorality (including, but not limited to, adultery, fornication, homosexuality, lesbianism, bisexual conduct, bestiality, incest, pornography, and attempting to change one’s biological sex or otherwise acting upon any disagreement with one’s biological sex) or advocacy of sexual immorality, is sinful and offensive to God.
- We believe that in order to preserve the mission and integrity of Front Range Christian School as the local Body of Christ, and to provide a biblical role model to students and the community all persons who attend the school should agree to abide by this statement on marriage, gender, and sexuality.
- We believe that God offers redemption and restoration to all who confess and forsake their sin, seeking His mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ.
- We believe that every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity. Hateful and harassing behavior or attitudes directed toward any individual are to be repudiated and are not in accord with Scripture nor the policy of Front Range Christian School.
On the Sanctity of Life
We believe that all human life is sacred and created by God in His image. Human life is of inestimable worth in all its dimensions, including pre-born babies, the aged, the physically or mentally challenged, and every other stage or condition from conception through natural death. We are therefore called to defend, protect, and value all human life. (Psalm 139)
The Final Authority Concerning Matters of Faith and Conduct
The statement of faith does not exhaust the extent of our faith. The Bible itself—as the inspired and infallible Word of God that speaks with final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind—is the sole and final source of all that we believe. For purposes of school doctrine, practice, policy, and discipline, our Head of School and School Board are the school’s final interpretive authority on the Bible’s meaning and application.
FRCS Is a Non-denominational School
FRCS is home to families from over 75 local churches. We are blessed by the diversity represented in our school. FRCS remains united in the essentials of our faith, rather than focusing on denominational distinctions. Our statement of faith focuses on those essentials, and teaching will not contradict this statement. All employees must agree to the content of this statement prior to employment.
“In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, charity.”
~ Rupertus Meldenius
There are things on which Christians must agree (e.g., the divinity of Jesus, the accuracy and authority of the Bible, that Jesus is the only way to salvation), but we should be charitable when disagreeing. We recognize, therefore, that there are issues on which various denominations disagree. Examples of such traditions and theological differences include:
- Form of church government
- Time and mode of baptism
- Eschatology (study of end times)
- Covenantal or dispensational theology
- Baptism of the Holy Spirit
- Spiritual gifts and their use (e.g., tongues, prophecy)
- Age of the earth
- Human responsibility vs. divine sovereignty
This is not an exhaustive list, but it represents commonly debated areas. FRCS staff reflect the diversity of our community and hold varying views on these subjects. It is not our intent to promote specific views nor to ignore them. It is likely that in the course of our curriculum, discipleship groups, chapel, and student questions that these issues will surface. In teaching these areas we are committed to responsibly handling the issues with sensitivity. Specifically:
- Teachers will acknowledge that these are issues of debate among godly people of varying denominational views.
- Teachers will acknowledge their own theological position or views based upon their background, traditions, and personal study. Teachers will strive to present balanced arguments for the various positions either personally or by bringing in a guest speaker to fairly represent other positions.
- Unity of believers in the non-essentials of the faith will be encouraged.
- Students will be directed to seek out their parents, church authorities, and the Bible as they reach conclusions on what they believe.
- In no way will students holding certain views be shown favoritism or be given a higher grade for holding those views.
