Music enriches life and gives voice the praises we offer to God. It has also been shown to help build confidence in students, and given them tools for success in other areas of the academic careers ranging from language to memory and studying to problem-solving. Our music programs start at the youngest ages and continue through graduation.
Elementary Programs
Music is a part of the “specials” offerings at FRCS Elementary. Each year students sing in class choirs and have the opportunity to perform in three or more concerts (Grandparents Day, a Christmas concert, and the spring concert).
In addition to their basic music classes and choirs, elementary students learn instruments starting in third grade.
Third grade students receive their first instrument, a recorder, in music class. This introduces them to concepts such as musical notation and music theory on the most basic levels.
In fourth grade, students build on what they learn through exposure to stringed instruments and basic keyboarding. Students receive a ukulele and may borrow a glockenspiel if they do not have a keyboard at home on which to practice the note reading they’re leaning in class.
In fifth and sixth grade, students may choose an instrument that interests them (such as trumpet, saxophone, flute, clarinet) and begin to perform in ensembles.
Beyond developing an appreciation for music, FRCS music programs for elementary students lay a strong foundation for music in secondary school.
Secondary School Programs
All junior high students at Front Range Christian School participate in a year-long music class. Junior high students can choose to participate in band or choir.
At the senior high level, FRCS students are required to take at least one fine art credit in order to graduate, but students have the choice in whether that credit is in music or one of the other arts. There are, however, more opportunities at the senior high level, including participating on the Worship Team, singing in choir, or playing in band for courses and a variety of clubs and extracurricular opportunities that broaden and deepen their musical experiences.
The Worship Team is by audition and leads praise through music during chapel services. The team is only open to senior high students.
For both junior and senior high students, there are several opportunities to perform throughout the year, including two school concerts, a talent show, Grandparents Day, and many more.
